Why IBM Uses 3D Virtual Training: It Works!
IBM is one of several large, successful companies that have pioneered the use of 3D environments for their virtual training programs. Research they conducted1 to assess their 3D training programs’ effectiveness showed that simulation-based training improved information retention rates of employees to between 70% and 90% (as compared to discussion-based learning, with retention rates of 40% to 50%). The effectiveness of 3D virtual environments for learning is also supported by a 2009 academic study, which found that “increased interaction between classmates and instructors in virtual (3D) classrooms helped students become more involved in the coursework and made it easier for them to comprehend the material and ask for help.”2
With the cost and time savings available through virtual training, small and mid-sized companies can also take advantage of the effective learning processes of 3D environments to build productivity and collaboration among employees.
